Elsa, I appreciate your thoughts. Trying to be a parent in an overly sexualized culture is certainly a challenge.

Amy, thanks for your story! It's amazing how much behind-the-scenes work God does on people's hearts. When we think that all hope is lost, suddenly the person we're praying for has a change of heart. So cool to hear!

Hey Nick! I didn't know you had a blog. Cool. My God sighting yesterday was that my dad approached me about going to find a church. I have been praying for this for YEARS and really come to the conclusion, that just wasn't going to happen. Then he texted me this morning that he discussed it with my step mom and siblings. I'm in shock and praising God for his faithfulness to him. I can't wait for him to go. He's out of town, so coming to Shepherd is not an option:(, that would be awesome though

I appreciate your thoughts. Since I'm not a girl, I can't say much about your comment on awareness of breast cancer (even though some guys can get it, too). I think part of their awareness campaign includes educating young women to check for breast cancer.

I should clarify, I'm not suggesting that the organization is selling these wristbands "under a false pretense." What I am trying to say is that this organization, based on emails I've exchanged with them, does not guarantee that a particular percentage of the sales will eventually go to research.

I agree with most of this. I think that a lot of people who wear the stuff from this company would claim that they "Raise awareness" BUT I've been wondering a lot lately- do we really need to raise awareness of breast cancer? Who doesn't know about breast cancer? I don't know any one who does not know someone who has had breast cancer... and I definitely don't know anyone who hasn't HEARD of breast cancer before. It really disturbs me that the money from wrist bands and things like this seem to be sold under a false pretense- if it is true that this money doesn't actually go directly to research. Interesting topic.

Absolutely, can't agree more. I read all my dtr's txts. Random, no warning. Rule is- phone is mine, I bought it, pay the bill, I own it. I remove phone 1 day for every curse word or resembling curse word on it, that she types. If a friens types it, I type them a msg; clean ur language, or I will a) call ur parents, or b) block ur # from my dtr's phone permanently. When I found sultry pics of my dtr on her hidden fb account, reported 2 me by my nephew, thru my sister(after 3 months!) I marched her 2 grandma's house: we have no computer @ home: had her take down all inappropriate pics. I enforced checks on all computer activity on g'ma's computer, when I picked her up in the morning. I got up earlier out of bed, to do this. Then, I just quit leaving her, there@ all, overnight, for 6 months now. I just gave up my boyfriend. He wasn't worth my dtr's safety. I check her facebook, weekly. When a 16 y/o was asking her out 2 a mall, & she was 13 (got her phone @ 13; waaaay too late, mom!) I txt the young man- u stop all contact w/ my minor dtr or I will contact ur parents. (They go 2 our church). Yes! It is not popular, 2 be a parent. And yes, it is necessary. Yes, phones are a priviledge. If she's grounded, it's not a hardship. Every teen in a 2foot radius has 1 she can use, 2call me. Sadly, she uses those, 2 go on U-tube, facebook, view inappropriate music videos, hear secular songs I wouldn't dare let her hear, much less memorize! She goes 2 a Christian Elem/Jr high. The rules against cell phone use are ignored by 8th grade daycare teachers. She has no internet access on her phone, but it matters not- all she wants 2 see is @ her fingertips, w/ friends phones.
